Other Site Characteristics

The site is covered with the continuous beech forest complex with a mosaic representation of the xerophilous grassland habitats and Orchidaceae. From the geomorphological point of view, it predominates an upland relief with the rocky cliffs and mountain ranges. Geological basement consists of limestones and dolomites. Substantial amount of underground water used as a drinking source is accumulated in the site.

4.2 Quality and importance

The aim of protection is to preserve the vast complex of habitats on limestones and dolomites. Extensive beech forests on the north and oak forests on the south of the site are of high significance. Xerophilous grassland vegetation is the habitat of Pulsatilla grandis s.I. Forest and rocky habitats and screes host the large carnivores. Part of the area is presently protected on a national level (Nature Reserve Udrina, Nature Reserve Lutovsky Drienovec, Nature Reserve Knazi stol, Nature Monument Stara Bebrava, National Nature Reserve Bradlo). Quality and importance: The most valuable parts of the site are protected as the nature reserves Udrina, Ľútovský Drienovec, Kňaží stôl, Bradlo and Nature Monument Stará Bebrava. Occurence of the orchids species is significant.
