Other Site Characteristics

With the exception of human settlements the watercourse bears all typical features of natural waterway with well-preserved floodplain harbouring diverse communities of hay meadows. Large tracts of the site support great diversity of natural and semi-natural habitats in the traditional landscape setting. The site is also valuable for nature conservation important fragments of fen habitat.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site is noted for the well-preserved floodplain of Hornád River upper course featuring natural river channel with sings of braiding surrounded by rich riparian forest stands with transitions to alluvial meadows. The site is important for the preservation of stable populations of Eudontomyzon spp. and Lutra lutra and, from the botanical point of view, for the preservation of valuable plant communities of fen and wetland habitats.
