- PF: for the habitat types that can have a non-priority as well as a priority form (6210, 7130, 9430) enter "X" in the column PF to indicate the priority form.
- NP: in case that a habitat type no longer exists in the site enter: x (optional)
- Cover: decimal values can be entered
- Caves: for habitat types 8310, 8330 (caves) enter the number of caves if estimated surface is not available.
- Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation)
3.2 Species referred to in Article 4 of Directive 2009/147/EC and listed in Annex II of Directive 92/43/EEC and site evaluation for them
- Group: A = Amphibians, B = Birds, F = Fish, I = Invertebrates, M = Mammals, P = Plants, R = Reptiles
- S: in case that the data on species are sensitive and therefore have to be blocked for any public access enter: yes
- NP: in case that a species is no longer present in the site enter: x (optional)
- Type: p = permanent, r = reproducing, c = concentration, w = wintering (for plant and non-migratory species use permanent)
- Unit: i = individuals, p = pairs or other units according to the Standard list of population units and codes in accordance with Article 12 and 17 reporting (see reference portal)
- Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
- Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)
3.3 Other important species of flora and fauna (optional)
- Group: A = Amphibians, B = Birds, F = Fish, Fu = Fungi, I = Invertebrates, L = Lichens, M = Mammals, P = Plants, R = Reptiles
- CODE: for Birds, Annex IV and V species the code as provided in the reference portal should be used in addition to the scientific name
- S: in case that the data on species are sensitive and therefore have to be blocked for any public access enter: yes
- NP: in case that a species is no longer present in the site enter: x (optional)
- Unit: i = individuals, p = pairs or other units according to the standard list of population units and codes in accordance with Article 12 and 17 reporting, (see reference portal)
- Cat.: Abundance categories: C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present
- Motivation categories: IV, V: Annex Species (Habitats Directive), A: National Red List data; B: Endemics; C: International Conventions; D: other reasons

Other Site Characteristics
The site forms a substantial part of the geomorphological subunit Nízke Tatry Mts., part Ďumbierske Tatry Mts. but it also interferes with the territory of the subunit Starohorské vrchy Hills. The site is noted for the presence of several species of flora protected by Slovak law and species listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants. From the geological point of view, the site is very diverse, the variability being underlined by its substantial size. Its northern sections are dominated by limestones and dolomites. Central parts are dominated by biotite and two-mica gneiss and muscovite-biotite granodiorits on transition to granites while its southern sections are typical for the increased presence of carbonate rocks. Glacial period gave origin to glacial cories, periglacial boulder seas and boulder fields. |
4.2 Quality and importance
Western part of Nízke Tatry Mts. is the second place additional to the Vysoké Tatry Mts. in the presence of typical alpine habitats, dwarf-pine communities and 9410 Acidophilous spruce forests (Vaccinio-Piceetea) evolved in natural conditions of Slovakia. The site supports vital populations of species of large carnivores of European importance whose population density here is highest in Slovakia. Nature conservation efforts shall focus on the stabilisation of thriving populations of these species and improvement of their mutual cohabitation with mankind that has become an inherent component of both ecosystems and the countryside. Their current density is the best guarantee of allowing spreading these species beyond Slovak borders to the areas of neighbouring countries where these species have been wiped out. The site partially overlaps with the territory of the Nízke Tatry SPA. The site provides excellent nesting grounds for a whole range of different avifauna species and is one of the five most important breeding areas of Slovakia for the species Aquila chrysaetos, Caprimulgus europaeus, Picoides tridactylus, Aegolius funereus and Glaucidium passerinum. Resident populations of fowl-like forest species of Tetrao tetrix, Tetrao urogallus and Bonasa bonasia are seen as core populations of these species in Slovakia. The site is also listed as one of the most valuable karstic areas of Slovakia. Majority of the site belongs to the territory of the Nízke Tatry / Low Tatras NP. Within the boundaries of the site, there are several sizeable small-scale protected areas of the national network of protected sites. |
