Other Site Characteristics

Majority of the site is dominated by communities of 6510 Lowland hay meadows (Alopecurus pratensis, Sanguisorba officinalis) and 7140 Transition mires and quaking bogs. These habitats developed in the valley of Hnilec River as a result of high water table and the long established traditional regime of regular mowing at times also accompanied by other common practices. Underlying geology predominately features alluvial sediments (sands, gravels) of Hnilec River. The site supports several species of bats of international importance (Eptesicus nilssoni, Myotis daubentonii, Myotis brandtii, etc.) as well as floral endemite Aconitum moldavicum and a group of nationally protected plant species (Dactylorhiza lapponica, Crepis conyzifolia, Crocus heuffelianus, etc.).

4.2 Quality and importance

The site has been selected for its valuable habitats of waterlogged and wet sites belonging to the type of transition mires
