Other Site Characteristics

The site is covered with the xerophilous grassland communities with juniper tree and refuges of other tree species (especially locust tree) in grooves. Half of the site is covered with the successive woods. The site is bordered with arable land and partly with the forest stands. Soil is shallow and sandy on the sandstone basement. From the geomorphological point of view, the site is represented by softly modelled sandstone ranges sharply emerging from the surrounding landscape.

4.2 Quality and importance

Xerophilous flora and fauna communities with the high biodiversity value conditioned by long-term management with the well-preserved juniper stands. One of the most significant localities of Linum hirsutum ssp. glabrescens in Slovakia. The site is notable for the occurence of nationally protected species Pulsatilla pratensis subsp. bohemica, Chrysopogon gryllus, Stipa sp. The site includes the Protected Site Vinohrady and also proposed Protected Site Drnianske chrbáty. The site is a part of the Protected Landscape Area Cerová vrchovina and proposed Special Protected Area Cerová vrchovina and Rimavská kotlina.
