Other Site Characteristics

2/3 of the area is covered with forests, especially Pannonic woods with Quercus petrea and Carpinus betulus on the acid basement. The rest of the site is covered with meadows and pastures. Periodically flooded marshland communities originated in several depressions. Geological basement is formed by andesite and andesite tuffs. The site is connected with forests in the north and arable land in the south. The site is significant due to the occurrence of nationally protected species Iris variegata, Utricularia vulgaris, Hottonia palustris.

4.2 Quality and importance

The fragment of well-preserved Pannonian oak-hornbeam forests (locality Veľká stráň) with the thermophilous flora communities and rare wetland communities. One of only few localities of Drosera rotundifolia in southern Slovakia. The site overlaps with the existing Nature Reserve Pokoradzské jazierka with a designated buffer zone and with proposed Special Protected Area Cerová vrchovina and Rimavská kotlina.
