Other Site Characteristics

From the geological point of view, the site is a part of the flysch stripe of Biele Karpaty Mts., it includes the Javorina massive. In teh southeastern part, the forests klippes Lysá and Kamienky and Landrovec with a cave extend. The site represents a typical sample of Biele Karpaty landscape - varied mosaic of rich orchid grasslands, tufa springs, forests and fields. Active landslides with frequent headsprings and rare weepy springs with the shallow tufa layers are developed on the flysch basement.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site is located within the Biele Karpaty PLA and it includes also the forestal Veľká Javorina Nature Reserve and several Nature Monuments of the grassland type - typical Orchideaceae meadows of this area (Mravcové, Grúň, Bestiné, Blažejová, Lopeníček and Baricovie lúky). Many rare and nationally protected species, e.g. butterflies Colias myrmidone, Lycena dispar, Lemonia dumi, Lemonia taraxaci, etc. occure in the site. The site with its habitat and species composition significantly contributes to the preservation of typical European biodiversity.
