Other Site Characteristics

The site is a part of the flysch part of Biele Karpaty Mts., Žalostiná massive with the typical landslides flows and unique headsprings and springs. The site is mainly of the grassland type, but mosaically also forests occur here. Scrubby and forestal planting is represented especially individually, i.e. in linies, clumps and groups. In a apart of the site, the orchards are planted.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site is a part of the Biele Karpaty PLA and it overlaps with the Nature Monuments Žalostiná, Bučkova jama and Štefanová. It is the only locality of the spieces Serratula lycopifolia occurrence in Slovakia. Aim of the protection is to preserve the rich orchids grasslands and tufa springs with the occurence of several nationally protected species, e.g. Danthonia alpina, Lilium bulbiferum, Orchis mascula.
