  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

The site represents a man-made underground shaft of the mining origin. The shaft is some 150-200 m long and it was used for the exploitation of iron ores between 1906 and 1914. The site is located on the ridge of Bradlo Hill to the north of Nandraž village.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site fosters the reproduction colonies of bats Rhinolophus euryale and Miniopterus schreibersii, both species of European importance. For the latter mentioned the site represents one of only two known reproduction colonies of the species in Slovakia. Population density of both species reaches, depending on the conditions, several thousands (maximum of 4.000 specimens). The site is featured on the list of underground bat habitats of European importance under the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (known as EUROBATS initiative).
