Other Site Characteristics

The territory is part of the Kysucká vrchovina, the sub-area of the Kysucké bradlá. From a geological point of view, it is a very interesting area, formed by mesozoic carbonate rocks (various types of limestones) of the band. Complexes of mostly deciduous beech and fir-beech forests, lime-maple debris forest forests and calcareous beech forests with the occurrence of numerous populations of nationally significant plant species (genera Epipactis, Cephalanthera, phyllitis scolopendrium). In the non-forested part of the eastern slopes of the Ľadonhora there are xerotherm pastures with the Orchis mascula and the Juniperus communis formations on carbonate xeroterms. They are complemented by their muddy springs and mesophile mowing meadows at the southern foot.. The rocky ridges of Ľadonhora and Steny are an important refinement of the Lynx lynx, regularly occurs the Ursus arctos and the Canis lupus..

4.2 Quality and importance

Conservation of habitats complexes with a wide range of forest types of fir-beech woods, limestone beechwoods, semi-debris and lime-maple debris forests in the klippen zone. Forest complexes and surrounding stony ridges are an important habitat of Lynx lynx in the region, and there are also other large carnivora beasts. In the ridge positions of Steny area there is an isolated population of the Parnassius mnemosyne.Conservation of non-forest habitats from the eastern and nord-eastern side of the Ľadonhora, especially xerophilous grass-herbaceous stands on the carbonate substrate in the marginal part of the occurrence in Slovakia, along with common juniper habitats on the part of this biotope. In Ľadonhora protected area there are also small boggy spring areas and mesophilous mowing meadows. The territory has the potential to be used for educational goals (nearby recreation center, touring trails).
