Other Site Characteristics

The site is a part of the geomorphological unit Podunajská nížina Lowland, subunit Podunajská rovina Plain. Danube River was a principal relief-forming factor here. Geological basement is formed by gravels-sands and locally sands. Potential native vegetation is represented by communities of the willow-poplar floodplain forests of Salici-Populetum and mixed ash-elm-oak floodplain forests of Fraxino-Ulmetum. Wood species composition of nearly 80 % of the site has been changed in favour of the poplar cultivars (Populus x euroamericana).

4.2 Quality and importance

The territory ensures the connectivity (linking) of the European significance area on the Danube River and in its river flood-plain. The main objective is to preserve the full migration flow of ichthyofauna, to reflow some distributaries of the Danube river branches and to preserve the original floodplain forests.
