Other Site Characteristics

The characteristic geomorphological formations of the Tribec mountain , which border this mountain region, mainly from the east and west side, represent the rest of the covering rocks of the mountain base. They stand above the surrounding countryside in the form of sharp ridge. On some ridges, ther are also rock formations . The rock subsoil is uniform and forms an early triassic quartzites. The vegetation mosaic at the most extreme points forms the open stands of acidophilous oak comunities with old solitary oaks, heatlands and pioneer vegetation on silicate substrates. On the gentle slopes there are oak-hornbeam forest comunities.

4.2 Quality and importance

The territory includes a number of quarzite localities in the northwestern and southeastern part of the Tribeč mountain . The sites, which are part of the CHKO Ponitrie protected landscape area, are typical of the occurrence of acidophilous oakwoods that complement the heathlands, pioneer and rocky habitats.
