Kadetrinne durchbricht v. SW nach NO die Darßer Schwelle u. besteht aus zahlr. Rinnen, die bis zu 32m tief in d. Geschiebemergelrücken einschneiden, Flanken d. Rinnen im N u. S sowie i. d. Mitte des Geb. stellen jeweils große Komplexe v. Steinriffen dar.

4.2 Quality and importance

Herausragende Bedeutung f. Vernetzung d. Ostsee- mit den Nordsee- Lebensgemeinsch. Vorkommen von Schweinswalen. Regional hohe Biodiversität. Makrophyten-Vorkommen auf Riffen bis in 24m Tiefe. Langlebige Makrozoobenthos-Gemeinschaften. Sehr hohe Anzahl an RL-Arten. Durch starke Strömung a. unterhalb der thermohalinen Sprungschicht nur selten Sauestoffmangelsituationen. Nahezu 73 % des Wasseraustausches zwischen Nord- und Ostsee vollziehen sich durch die Kadetrinne.
