Other Site Characteristics

Habitatområdet er opbygget af yngre, marine aflejringer i 3 forskellige niveauer. Mod vest ses nutidens kystlandskab med en relativt smal sandstrand efterfulgt af høje klitter. Bag klitrækken findes et lavtliggende område på hævet stenalderhavbund. Øst for dette område, ca 800 meter inde i landet, er stenalderhavets kyst repræsenteret af en 10-15 meter høj skrænt, der er opbygget af kalkrige aflejringer fra Yoldiahavet (c. 14.000 år f.v.t). Liver Å løber i store slynger igennem området for til sidst at gennemskære klitrækken og løbe ud i Skagerak.

4.2 Quality and importance

Det varierede landskab har givet mulighed for udvikling af mange forskellige naturtyper, der alle er af høj kvalitet og i flere tilfælde i øvrigt med en meget sparsom forekomst. Desuden har størstedelen af området siden 1962 været fredet med det formål at bevare arealerne i deres naturlige tilstand.
