Other Site Characteristics

The limestone and dolomite constituting mass of the Bakony had fallen down in marginal areas, and covered with miocene quartz pebble and in smaller quantity with quartz conglomerate. Alluvial sediment of streams cut into lose pebble layer is still forming. Due to the marginal position and the relatively high amount of annual precipitation once the area was rich in water; this is shown by the old, partly filled stream beds, artificial draining ditches and the vegetation. The regional decrease of karstic water level in the 1970-80' had serious effect on the vegetation. The character of water influenced, very valuable vegetation types has been changing due to drying out. It is an important task for nature conservation is to restore the original water conditions as much as possible.
