The plateau is an extensive montane zone, primarily with Aconitum beech forests and valuable montane meadows, with several sub-alpine flora and fauna elements. The woodland areas are in diverse conditions; however, old populations, which still exhibit a natural structure, have a restricted total expanse. A relatively large part of the area is covered by nondescript young populations and planted spruce and larch woods. On the mountain meadows the area restoration project has already been started by the conservation manager. The rock grasslands and rock woodlands on the edges of the plateau are considered to be the most valuable xerotherm relic preserving spots, the most outstanding among them being Blko, an area mutilated by surface quarrying, which has preserved several unique plant and animal species (Calamintha thymifolia, Ferula sadleriana, Dianthus plumarius ssp. praecox and Isophya modesta, Stenobothrus eurasicus, Saga pedo etc.) The ravine forest associations of the northern valleys of the plateau host important Carpathian montane relics (Viola biflora and Arabis alpina - only here in Hungary, Cimicifuga europaea, Clematis alpina, Polystichum aculeatum). The specific endemic Sesleria rock grasslands of the dolomite-limestone areas around massa are a special asset with their rich flora of orchids (Cypripedium calceolus, Ophrys insectifera). In Hungary, this is the only place where the Balkanic Asplenium lepidum is found. Linked with the region from the south is the area of Lk-vlgy - Lkbrc, characterised by slate shale and the predominance of turkey oak - sessile oak forests. Though fragmented, also of great value are the fen meadow - riverine alder woods complexes and the rich rock vegetation of Imko.
