Generally speaking, the edaphic associations (scrub woodlands, thermophilous oak forests, rock beech forests and steppes), due to the petrographical differences and marked relief variability, are significantly represented in the area, ensuring a peculiar flora and fauna. Significant species enrichment has taken place in areas where the geological, geomorphological and microclimatic diversity was coupled with an extensive antropogenic impact, favourably affecting the settlement of species and the stability of populations. Such "hot spots" are the following: (1) The sub-Mediterranean - continental scrub woodlands, thermophilous oak forests, steppes and rock grasslands of Nagy-Eged and Kis-Eged are unique not only in the flora-district but in all of Hungary. Of significant value are the abandoned vineyards and orchards, primarily with respect to the regeneration of the vegetation. (2) The eastern fringe of the Trknyi-medence (Trknyi Basin) (Mikls-vlgy, Ostoros-vlgy, Gazsi-lpa, T-lpa), where we find a mass of steppe woodland species, which are in contact with species of the colline thermophilous oak forests. (3) The species-rich edaphic beech forests on the Eocene limestone of Bikk-brc - Cseres-teto (Skfokt), with a rich flora of orchids. (4) Kerek-domb (Kerek Hill) near Bkkzsrc and Galambosi-rtek (Galambosi Meadows), where the loess vegetation of the mountain fringes is in contact with the typical vegetation of the Eocene limestone.
