Other Site Characteristics

The Brzsny (Brzsny Mountains) and Visegrdi-hegysg (Visegrdi Mountains) extend over a very large area. Deriving from this fact, the site is very diverse and rich in natural assets with special regard to its birdlife. The Brzsny part comprises two main blocks: Dl-Brzsny (South), and the closed block of Magas-Brzsny (High-Brzsny). In the material and structure of both, the volcanic forms and ancient river terraces are typical. The mass of the materials of Visegrdi-hegysg is made up of Dachstein limestone and dolomite but on these Tertiary volcanic rock layers were deposited (Miocene andesite, tuff, piroclasts). Visegrdi-hegysg is a group of heavily denuded volcanic ruins distributed by a radiated valley network. Characteristic habitats are the deciduous forests of the mountains of medium height, the Quercetum petraeae-cerris, Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests and Illyrian oak-hornbeam forests.

4.2 Quality and importance

„Kiemelt fontossg cl a kvetkezo madrfajok kedvezo termszetvdelmi helyzetnek fenntartsa, helyrelltsa": Klto fajok: Uhu (Bubo bubo), Fekete glya (Ciconia nigra), Fehrht fakopncs (Dendrocopos leucotos), Fekete harkly (Dryocopus martius), Bajszos srmny (Emberiza cia), Vndorslyom (Falco peregrinus), rvs lgykap (Ficedula albicollis), Kis lgykap (Ficedula parva), Hegyi billegeto (Motacilla cinerea), Darzslyv (Pernis apivorus), Urli bagoly (Strix uralensis). Vonul madrfajok: Kercerce (Bucephala clangula), Fekete glya (Ciconia nigra), Kis buk (Mergus albellus). The Brzsny and Visegrdi-hegysg is a unique closed complex covered by forests on both sides of the Duna (River Danube), serving as a very important refuge for birdlife.
