Other Site Characteristics

A diverse mountainous area of Gerecse (Gerecse Mountains): Dachstein limestone, freshwater limestone, dolomite as well as acid conglomerate are present. On these bases, loess and sand are deposited as younger sediment. From the thick loess cover limestone cliffs emerge in the higher areas, often forming extensive karrenfelds. Remarkable ravines and the basic rock rising to the surface in the form of rock walls make the region varied from the geomorphological aspect. Large, considerably continuous forests cover the area.

4.2 Quality and importance

„Kiemelt fontossg cl a kvetkezo madrfajok kedvezo termszetvdelmi helyzetnek fenntartsa, helyrelltsa": Klto fajok: Fekete glya (Ciconia nigra), Parlagi sas (Aquila heliaca), Kgyszlyv (Circaetus gallicus), Darzslyv (Pernis apivorus), Vndorslyom (Falco peregrinus), Kk galamb (Columba oenas), Hamvas kllo (Picus canus), Fekete harkly (Dryocopus martius), Fehrht fakopncs (Dendrocopos leucotos), Kzp fakopncs (Dendrocopos medius), Erdei pacsirta (Lullula arborea), Karvalyposzta (Sylvia nisoria), Kis lgykap (Ficedula parva), rvs lgykap (Ficedula albicollis), Tvisszr gbics (Lanius collurio), Bajszos srmny (Emberiza cia). Vonul madrfajok: Fekete glya (Ciconia nigra), Fehr glya (Ciconia ciconia), Parlagi sas (Aquila heliaca), Rtisas (Haliaeetus albicilla). The relatively untouched closed forests and open meadows of Gerecse provide an excellent breeding and feeding place for the predatory birds in the region.
