Other Site Characteristics

The site is made up of the most diverse and valuable parts of the Budai-hegysg (Budai Mountains). Apart from the region of the Hrmashatr-hegy (Hrmashatr Mountain), in these mountains the presence of inhabitants and the process of urbanisation are the slightest. 85 % of the area belongs to the Budai Landscape Protection Area. This area is largely covered with forests of scheduled use, in a smaller proportion with non-protected forests, set-aside orchards with former steppe woodland vegetation as well as reedbed. Variable habitats (e.g. submediterranean open dolomite rocky grasslands of a semi-desert character, Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests, grasslands with alpine species) can be found as near as 10-15 meters' distance of each other. Unfortunately, the enthusiasts of leisure activities (hiking, gliding, paragliding, horseback riding, mountain biking, landrovering and cross-motorcycling) visit and damage these areas, which have survived relatively untouched till now. The improper forest use by forestry is also mentionable as they clear-cut also in such areas (mainly beech forests), which cannot be reforested to their original state.
