Other Site Characteristics

Marshes and grasslands along Hajta (Stream Hajta) and Bbicfszeki-g (Bbicfszeki Branch) directed to artificial canals. While Hajta-mocsr (Hajta Marsh) by the settlement of Jszberny as well as Egresktai-mocsr (Egresktai Marsh) and Nyk-rti mocsarak (Nyk-rti Marshes) remained in their natural state, I-II. trozk (Reservoirs No. I-II.) near the settlements of Tpiszentmrton and Farmos have been developed by the diking of former Nagy-ndas (Large Reedbed). At the eastern edge of the site, the meander system of the reg-Hajta bends and apart from this, in numerous places alkaline plains and lakebeds are found. Marshes are surrounded by alkaline meadows (in some places bog meadows) and alkaline pastures, furthermore, on the top of salt berms and man-made formations (boundaries, burial hills, etc.) loess grasslands with rich species diversity have settled. The area near the settlement of Talms holds valuable sandy grasslands and along the Kkai-g (Kkai Branch) a larger alluvial forest with Alnus glutinosa is present. Within the grasslands there are enclosed ploughlands. Woodlands are represented mainly by black locust and hybrid poplar groves at the former farms, except for Gyulai-erdo (Gyulai Forest) of the settlement of Szentmrtonkta, the small oak wood by Bata-t (Bata Lake) near Nagykta and the Salix forests along reg-Hajta.
