Other Site Characteristics

Humid grasslands of lower terrains along water-courses in the Mri-rok (Mri Ditch) between Vrtes (Vrtes Mountains) and Bakony (Bakony Mountains). From the geological aspect the site belongs to the Dunntli-kzphegysg (Transdanubian Mountains). The thick sediments of the Triassic Age gradually dryed out in the middle of the Cretaceous period due to the heavy orogenesis. The rigid dolomite deposited on the less rigid rock types of the Triassic (limestone, dolomite, marl) was not able to follow the lower layers bulging and creasing, thus fractures developed in it. The fractures later were covered by gravel transported by water-courses. From the botanical aspect, the region belongs to the Transdanubian Mountains, but several elements of the flora of the Great Hungarian Plain also occur here. The natural fen meadows and hay meadows are variegated with drier grassland types and secondary alkaline grasslands.
