Other Site Characteristics

The western part of the Cserht (a region situated between the Brzsny Mountains and the River Zagyva) consists of several hill ranges (Kosdi-dombsg, Ecskendi-dombsg, etc.) Its special feature is that here sedimentary rocks (limestone, dolomite, sandstone, clay, etc.) are also found besides the volcanic rocks (e.g. andesite). The average height of the site is 250-300 m, the highest point is the isolated mountain of the Naszly (652 m). Due to the sediments of clay and sand, the geomorphological formations of this site are gentler in comparison with the surrounding mountainous areas and only the andesite and limestone mountains emerge firmly. In the broad valleys arable lands are stretching, the slopes are often occupied by pastures and set-aside orchards. In the proposed area woodlands and grasslands of mountainous and plain character are present. The area is divided into several patches and is covered mainly by deciduous forests and smaller loess grasslands and slope steppes next to these. Also wetlands of different sizes, developed along the water-courses are connected to these.
