Other Site Characteristics

The site is bordered by the Dunakanyar (Danube Bend) from the north and east, as well as by the main road No. 10 from the southwest. The Pilis (Pilis Mountains) is made up of sediments of the Mesozoic Period, its mass is Dachstein limestone and dolomite. The materials of Visegrdi-hegysg (Visegrdi Mountains) are the same but on these Tertiary volcanic rock layers were deposited (Miocene andesite, tuff, piroclasts). The Pilis is a series of horsts tipped to one-side, the Visegrdi-hegysg is a group of heavily denuded volcanic ruins distributed by a radiated valley network. The characteristic habitats are deciduous forests of the mountains of medium height. On the lower elevations Quercetum petraeae-cerris, on the higher elevations Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests and Illyrian oak-hornbeam forests are present. Scrubs and rocky woodlands of the southern slopes as well as the natural and secondary grasslands are of high importance.
