Other Site Characteristics

The site is located on the catchment area of the River Danube, mainly on a 15 km long sand dune range enclosed by and in a small part lying in the so-called Turjn-land. Bordered by two other sites of the Turjn-land. The bedrock is formulated by a thick series of eolic sediments of alluvial origin, in the form of already fixed calcareous moving sand and partly loessy sand. A smaller part of the soils were created under water influence. On the seasonally wet surfaces meadow soils, while on the permanently water covered areas peaty soils developed. The soils are alkaline due to the highly calcareous sediments of the River Danube they evolved from. The water supply of the region comes from precipitation and ground water. The site safeguards beautiful remains of sandy grasslands and juniper-poplar shrubs, lowland pedunculate oak forests (degrading all over the Hungarian Great Plain, because of forestry activities and decrease of ground water) and Molinion communities. The natural and semi-natural habitats have a good chance to survive, hence the ground water level decrease is not so serious here.

Kiemelt fontossg cl a kvetkezo fajok/lohelyek kedvezo termszetvdelmi helyzetnek helyrelltsa: 6260 (pannon homoki gyepek), 6410 (kkperjs rtek), 91F0 (kemnyfs ligeterdok, illetve gyngyvirgos tlgyesek), 91I0 (euroszibriai erdossztyepp-tlgyesek), Chondrosoma fiduciarium (magyar osziaraszol), Euphydryas maturna (dszes tarkalepke), Lycaena dispar (nagy tuzlepke), Maculinea teleius (vrfu-boglrkalepke). The site has a great importance, involving characteristic sandy grasslands and juniper-poplar stands, lowland pedunculate oak forests (degrading all over the Hungarian Great Plain, because of forestry activities and dropping of ground water) and Molinion communities, found mainly between the sand dunes. It has a high species and habitat diversity including the biggest continuous Convallario-Quercetum forest.
