Other Site Characteristics
It is a plain area with degraded sandy grasslands on higher levels and mostly nondescript degraded grasslands on lower ones. It is surrounded by small farms and arable lands. Many decades ago there was a salt wetland on the lower parts of the site, but due to local drainage and decrease of regional ground water level, it has dried out. During that time original habitats of Spermophilus citellus population on higher hillocks have been largely destroyed, so a great part of the population has "gone down" to the former wetland.
"Other land" types are: small farms, canals, buildings of an agricultural and sport airport, minor roads, motor road. |
4.2 Quality and importance
Kiemelt fontosságú cél a Spermophilus citellus (ürge) kedvező természetvédelmi helyzetének fenntartása.
It has medium quality and great importance from the point of view of Spermophilus citellus population. Spermophilus populations on clayey soils are not too rare in the Carpathian basin, but on sandy ones they became much more endangered. This "ecotype" of Spermophilus citellus was widely distributed on sandy areas between Danube and Tisza rivers on the Great Hungarian Plain, but now the population of this site is one of the biggest remainders.
The site has only medium quality, primarily because of its relatively small territory and its unfavourable surroundings - small farms, arable lands, vineyards, planted forest monocultures -, so it is exposed to quite a lot disturbing effect (traffic, agricultural pollutions, disturbing effects of human presence, etc.). |

4.5 Documentation (optional)
There is no detailed documentation about the site.
The relative abundance of Spermophilus population is monitored in the framework of the National Biodiversity-monitoring system; there are annual reports about these surveys in the Kiskunság National Park Directorate. |

There is no management plan yet. |
