Other Site Characteristics

The site is located on the sand dune ridge between Rivers Danube and Tisza, on the catchment of the former. The soil has mainly evolved from former alluvial sediments deposited here by the wind (eolic origin) in the form of calcifeorus sand and in some parts loessy sand. Thickness of the sand layer is from some to a dozen meters. Soils are alkaline, due to the calciferous sediments of the River Danube blown and deposited here. The forest-steppe formulated by the complexes of sandy grassland and juniper-poplar stands, remains of sandy pedunculate oak forests are of great importance and need special attention and management from a nature conservation point of view.
