Other Site Characteristics

The site is located on the catchment area of the River Tisza, surrounded by sand dunes, like the characteristic former wetlands of the main sand dune ridge between the Rivers Danube and Tisza. Water supply of the site is of precipitation and ground water origin, characterised by seasonality and depending upon the rainfall of the given year. The majority of the site is a wetland-comlplex, surrounded by mesophil meadows.

4.2 Quality and importance

Kiemelt fontossg cl a kvetkezo lohelyek s fajok kedvezo termszetvdelmi helyzetnek helyrelltsa: 3150 (termszetes eutrf tavak), 6410 (kkperjs lprtek), 6440 (mocsrrtek), Cirsium brachycephalum (kisfszku aszat), Emys orbicularis (mocsri teknos), Bombina bombina (vrshas unka), Triturus dobrogicus (dunai gote). Permanent and seasonal wetlands of the region between the Rivers Danube and Tisza were almost completely destroyed by the dropping of the water table and by water management activites in synergy with the desertification process. For this reason this remaining wetland complex has great importance, and a fairly good quality.
